Nikhil has a reason to prefer Anushka

Bollywood actress Anushka Sharma will soon be seen sharing the screen space with Akshay Kumar in Patiala House as female-lead. But what’s more interesting is the reason behind her choice for the movie by Nikhil Advani. If sources are to be believed, Nikhil was looking for a quite fresh face so that there is an undivided attention for Akshay who plays the lead and pivotal role. Nikhil in a way has been heard to gone Aditya Chopra.Patiala House revolves around real believable characters with real emotions and moments. It is a story of a second-generation Sikh in London.

The actress presently endorses nine brands including Cadbury`s Perk, Fanta, Spinz, Dabur Vatika, LG Cookie, Virgin, Margo, Garnier and Fasttrack. “It is an honour that CNBC AWAAZ and the Indian consumers have chosen to bestow upon me and I couldn`t be happier.Stalwarts like Shah Rukh and Akshay Kumar have been awarded this prestigious title in the past and I`m only glad that people think I`m worthy of the same,” Genelia said in a press statement. “This award symbolises a bridge between the customer and the brand and I consider it a huge responsibility. I hope I continue to do even better in the future and I`m sure I will as I have a very strong team with me that helps me build, grow and sustain. My success is as much theirs as it is mine,” she added. The award was announced late Monday evening.

Why is Anushka Sharma signed for Patiala House?

One of the close sources from London reveals, “Nikhil Advani still remembers the day when he read an article on why Aditya Chopra cast Anushka Sharma opposite Shahrukh Khan. The reason which Adi gave to the Press was that he wanted the audiences to feel that they were watching a SRK film but landed up coming out of the cinema houses seeing Suri, the character SRK plays in the film.”The source adds further, “If Nikhil had cast any well known face opposite Akshay Kumar, the audiences reaction would be different. Here they are clearly going to go in the cinemas watching an Akshay Kumar film but he wants them to come out of the theaters watching the character Akshay plays. Nikhil wanted to make the characters real and so he cast Anushka Sharma.. In fact, Nikhil has also decided to tag this film ‘A film by Nikhil Advani’ as it remains true to himself more than giving out any wrong notions about the film to the audiences.”Well, for now, all Nikhil needs to do is – Thank Aditya Chopra for roping in Anushka Sharma. And two, pray that Patiala House brings the house down with its antics, emotions and a good story telling.

Sonam Kapoor keeps a distance from Deepika

All doesn’t seem to be well with Deepika and Sonam. Off recently, Sonam has been declining offers which have Deepika already roped in. The cause seems to be Sonam’s first co-star and Deepika’s love, Ranbir Kapoor.Yes, Ranbir has been the cause of resistance between two lovely ladies who can’t stand a sight of each other.Sonam deliberately refused a role opposite Akshay Kumar in David Dhawan’s Desi Boys for Deepika and John Abraham had been already signed by the director. The seeds of indifference were sown then and now the two ladies are not finding difficult to reap.

Ode to Katrina Kaif’s inspires poem for Farhan’s Film

A couplet written by a fan in celebration of Katrina Kaif’s beauty and virtues has surfaced on numerous websites and blogs. It has inspired an entire song devoted to Katrina in Zoya Akhtar’s ‘Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara’.

Says a source close to the project, “Katrina plays a free- spirited girl, a wanderer at heart and a bohemian gypsy by nature whom the three male leads Hrithik Roshan, Farhan Akhtar and Abhay Deol are seriously fascinated by. She inspires the boys to chase their dreams and not being afraid of reaching deep into the darkness to find light.”

And that’s precisely the character that the film’s director Zoya Akhtar’s father the sensitive poet Javed Akhtar will have to describe in his lyrics, for a song devoted to Katrina’s character.

Says the source, “There was only a vague idea for such a song in Zindagi Milegi Na Dobara. But when the poem by Katrina’s fan surfaced on the net everyone felt that the lyrics describing Katrina’s character beauty and zest for life were needed.”

Katrina, neck-deep in shooting, with Hrithik, Farhan and Abhay in Spain is flattered by all the attention she’s getting online and in person. “But I can’t think of anything but how to get into the character. This role requires a lot of physical preparation. I had almost no time to prepare for Zoya’s film. I delayed my departure from Mumbai till the very last minute because I wanted to enjoy the attention that Raajneeti was getting. I get attached to a film and need a transitional period between one project and the next. I didn’t get that space before coming to Spain.”

But pleasure comes with a price. Katrina’s preparation for her zany character in Zoya’s film is half-complete. She needs to master many outdoor sports. Most of them are new to her. But she is learning on the job in Spain. “I landed here at night and started shooting next morning, completely unprepared. But now I’m getting a hang of it.”

About the ode by her fan she says, “It’s flattering to have people write such wonderful lines for you. I can’t pretend to be unaffected by all the attention that I’m getting. At the same time, I can’t let it go to my head. There’s so much more to be done.”

Asin warned not to pair with Salman Khan

The South Indian Film Federations had protested against the IIFA awards function, held in Colombo. They boycotted the awards function organized by the Sri Lankan Government which had mercilessly murdered thousands of innocent Tamilians. The Tamil organizations also banned the actors and actresses who participated in the function. But a few actors like Hrithik Roshan and Salman Khan paid no heed and went ahead with their participation.

Hrithik Roshan’s Kites was ousted from the theatres in South India as a result.

Salman Khan is currently acting in a film which has Asin paired with him. The Sri Lankan Government has invited the producer to shoot this film in Sri Lanka. So the film which was to be shot in Mauritius was relocated to Sri Lanka. The Sri Lankan Government has extended all facilities for the shooting of this film because Salman Khan had participated in the IIFA,.

But now there is a protest going on against Asin because of her pairing up with Salman. Lots of people are calling her up, on her cell phone, and requesting her not to act in this film.

The Salman Khan film Ready will not be screened in the five states of South either.

Asin, while speaking about this said, “I also got the invitation to participate in the IIFA. But respected the emotions and sentiments of the Tamil people and boycotted that function. But the producer here, has only signed me to act in the film Ready. I have given my call sheet to act in his film.”

Mumbai running through them

‘Apartment’, ‘City of Gold’, ‘Bird Idol’, ‘Kuchh Kariye’ and ‘Muskurake Dekh Zara’ - all the Hindi films releasing Friday (April 23) have a common thread. All of them have Mumbai as the backdrop for themes varying from the space crunch in the city to organised crime and even an animation flick.

In ‘Apartment’, director Jagmohan Mundhra portrays a "contemporary story, set in today's Mumbai" where people share rooms with complete strangers "because of the space crunch and the steep real estate prices". The movie stars Rohit Roy, Tanushree Dutta and Neetu Chandra.

‘City of Gold’ is a no-holds-barred look at the birth of the city's underbelly and organised crime. Director Mahesh Manjrekar, who also plays an important role in the film, highlights the plight of Mumbai mill workers who sacrificed a lot so that the 21st century Mumbai of swanky malls and glittering multiplexes could be built.

‘Bird Idol’, on the other hand, is an animated laugh-riot where the birds of Mumbai are as human as the people who inhabit it. Director Jyotin Goel, who made the Sanjay Dutt-starrer ‘Safari’, narrates how birds go to school, watch TV, go out on dates and enjoy reality shows, especially a musical show known for making overnight stars.

‘Bird Idol’ has voice-overs by Juhi Chawla, Shaan and Kailash Kher.

‘Kuchh Kariye’, produced and directed by Jagbir Dahiya, deals with the current socio-political scenario. It's the journey of a man meeting his destiny and coming to terms with himself in Mumbai, after he is forced to leave his hometown. The film also marks the debut of singer Sukhwinder Singh as an actor.

It also stars Vikrum Kumar, Rufi Khan, Shriya, Surendra Pal and Mukesh Tiwari.

‘Muskurake Dekh Zara"’is the story of a young man who drives from his hometown to Mumbai after an embarrassing incident. And he finds love in the city. A story of emotions and disappointments in love and life, the movie is about winning back one's zeal with an upright attitude and ability to put people in their place after moving away from home.

‘Muskurake Dekh Zara’ is produced and directed by Som Shekhar, who has been an executive producer of movies like ‘Rangeela’, ‘Satya’ and ‘Company’. The film is the launch pad of debutants Gashmeer Mahajani and Twinkle Patel.

As far as the casting goes, Friday seems to be missing out on films with big stars. What is to be seen is if the five movies manage to set the ticket windows buzzing.

Anupam Kher is the dictator, Neha Dhupia his wife – will it work?

Indian history has been revised time and again on celluloid, but debutant director Rakesh Ranjan Kumar moves into a global canvas with ‘Dear Friend Hitler’ to capture the last few days of the Nazi dictator in his Berlin bunker and Germany after his downfall in 1945.

"My film aims to recapture the last days of Adolf Hitler," Rakesh, who is perhaps the first Indian filmmaker to attempt a movie on Hitler, said.

"It shows Hitler in his underground bunker and portrays his relationship with his close associates. It aims to capture the personality of Adolf Hitler and his insecurities, his charisma and his paranoia during the last few days of his life," he added.

World War II and Hitler have been subjects of enduring fascination through the decades with films like ‘Hitler: The Last Ten Days’ (1973), ‘Downfall’ (2004) and the Tom Cruise-starrer ‘Valkyrie’ (2008). But this will be a first for Indian cinema.

Rakesh has roped in the versatile Anupam Kher to play the lead role; Neha Dhupia will portray his wife Eva Braun who was 23 years younger to him.

Rakesh maintains that the film also shows how Hitler contributed to India's independence and what happened to soldiers in Subhas Chandra Bose's Azad Hind Legion in Germany.

"It shows Hitler's love for India and how he indirectly contributed to Indian independence. It also depicts the struggle for survival of the lesser known Indian Legion soldiers who were left in Germany by Subhas Bose to fight for India's independence and Germany's prestige," said Rakesh.

Though volumes have been written about the dictator, very little information is available about his wife Eva who was a model before she met him. ‘Dear Friend Hitler’ focuses on that too.

"The film will not show the love life of Adolf Hitler. It will show Eva who had been rarely spoken about in the history. Eva had been Hitler's girlfriend since she was 17 years old. The film shows how she comes in his life in his last days. They got married 42 hours before he died (April 30, 1845)."

Though the backdrop is World War II, Rakesh insists his is not a war movie.

"By the title, people might take it as a periodic or war film, but we have portrayed neither. Rather it's a war of conscience going on in the mind of Hitler," he said.

The film is expected to go on the floors next month.

Katrina Kaif is missing monsoon rains

The first monsoon rain has already hit Mumbai but Katrina Kaif, who loves Mumbai rains, is far away in Spain shooting for director Zoya Akhtar’s filmZindagi Milegi Na Dobara, co-starring Hrithik Roshan, Abhay Deol, Farhan Akhtar and Kalki Koechlin.

“Katrina loves the rains and loves the smell of the wet mud just after the first rains. She was really upset when she found out she missed it,” a source close to the actress is quoted as telling a news agency.

Not just the rain, Katrina has also been missing the company of herRaajneeti team which has been sticking together even days after the film’s release.

But given the fact that the weather in Spain in June/July is pleasantly warm with sporadic showers, Katrina, we hope, won’t have much to complain during this schedule.

After all, doesn’t a John Ruskin quote say: “There is really no such thing as bad weather; only different kinds of good weather.”

Genelia, Anushka and Sameera warned

Nadigar Sangam has issued a warning to Genelia, Anushka, Sameera Reddy, Kajal Agarwal, Hansika Motwani and a host of other actresses who did not register at the Sangam till date. In a letter to these actresses, the President of the Sangam, Sarath Kumar and General Secretary Radha Ravi stated that they should become a member soon or face a ban in Kollywood.

It has been reported that some members of the Nadigar Sangam visited the Uttama Puthiran shooting spot where scenes involving Genelia were being shot and demanded that she register as a member to continue acting in Tamil films.

The actress is reported to have acceded to this demand. It needs to be seen what the other leading ladies will do.

Aamir neglects Shahrukh Khan

Aamir Khan has taken off from movies for a period of a year doesn’t come as a surprise for the perfectionist in him is quite capable of doing so. However, visiting London for socializing purpose and meeting everyone possible from tinsel town and Shahrukh Khan does come as a surprise.

In fact, the perfectionist nowdays is engrossed in the cracking marketing deals for her better half’s directorial venture Peepli Live and recently visited London for the same. During the free time, the superstar chose to meet his friends Amitabh and Jaya Bachchan, Akshay Kumar, Ronnie Screwvala and so on.

But one man he knowingly neglected was SRK.Well, what were reasons behind the act only Aamir knows but we wonder what had our Shahrukh Khan to say on that.

Akshay Kumar to get busy

Akshay Kumar who has a busy long outdoor schedule. But this again the actor was busy doing rounds of television interviews for his upcoming Khatta Meetha. Akshay has been busy with a hectic schedule for last few months has planned to take a month long break.

Like other celebs, the actor too is preparation to have a month-long yearly vacation overseas. Akshay Kumar will get back to his hectic work schedule as soon as he lands in Mumbai as he has a number of films like Khatta Meetha and Action Replayy lined up.

John Abraham’s films run into problems

The problems over John Abraham’s films just do not seem to end. After his film Aashayein got delayed for nearly three years, there were reports that his film is directed by Abbas Tyrewala has hit a road block. His film with David Dhawan and UTV — Hook Ya Crook — has reportedly also been shelved.

Now there are rumours that another film — Phillum City — has also been put in cold storage. Our source said, “Phillum City has John playing the lead along with a lot of small kids. The film was to mark the debut of Deven Khote who is one of the key members of UTV Motion Pictures. However, the film has been completed yet there are no reports on its release after that.

John has already completed his work on the film and is waiting for the release date to be announced. And now Khakha Khakha also seems to be delayed yet again.” One wonders what’s wrong with John’s career.

Did Hansika learn her lessons?

Hansika Motwani, who was riding high with the success of her debut film ‘Desamuduru’ followed by ‘Kantri’, later could not sustain due to her back to back flops like ‘Jayeebhava’, ‘Maska’ and ‘Seetaramula Kalyanam’.

Seems like she regretted for doing those films, hence she maintained a low profile with no films on hand.

Slowly but gradually she managed to grab two films in Tamil. And now, she is back in Tollywood again by signing Balakrishna’s ‘Paramaveera Chakra’. She would be sharing the screen with Anushka who is the main heroine.

As of now Hansika appears more than happy for being part of this prestigious film to be directed by Dasari Narayana Rao.

Kareena Kapoor fumes on 'nude' query

New Delhi media was in for a shock as Kareena Kapoor staged a walk out of a press conference in the city where she was present to promote her upcoming film ‘Kambakht Ishq’. Visibly upset and fuming with anger, she marched towards her suite when a female reporter questioned her if she would be willing to go totally nude for camera if the script demanded so.

Informs an onlooker who was present at the venue, "The question shocked her. Just a few minutes back, she had patiently handled queries regarding her professional life. She had also commented around wearing a bikini in ‘Tashan’ and now ‘Kambakht Ishq’ mainly because the 'script demanded it'. Though averse to doing so in future projects, she admitted that she would keep the subject and story in mind and would do 'anything' that is required by the script."

Kareena kapoor

Though it was a diplomatic stand on affairs, things went a little too far when an over zealous reporter popped the question - 'Would you mind going nude for a role?' "This was it", adds the source, "Kareena lost her cool at that very moment and rather than choosing to blast the reporter and create a scene, she simply aborted her stay at the press conference. The flabbergasted reporter didn't know what hit her. The event coordinator too felt disgusted about the entire incident and found himself in trouble as this situation was totally unforeseen."

The source continues, "There were problems for Kareena from the very beginning of the event. First and foremost the chosen venue itself wasn't conducive enough to handle a large media that had assembled. Around 100 odd reporters and journalists had gathered in a room that wasn't large enough to host a mega celebrity press conference like this. With the claustrophobic venue not helping the cause enough, queries like these were enough for Kareena to blow her fuse."

For media and the film, director Sabbir Khan came to rescue though. He handled the situation well by staying on at the venue and continued to interact with the reporters. "Yes, Kareena was justified in walking out but Sabbir too did all to ensure that promotion of ‘Kambakkht Ishq’ didn't get impacted", says a fellow reporter, "He realises that the film is just a few days away and didn't want any bad blood to spoil the show. He had a thin rope to walk on and did pretty well in rescuing the event from turning into a complete disaster."
